If I could offer a book that is an important historical novel about the Boxer Rebellion and the Chinese/Japanese war, it’s called “The Good Earth” by Pearl S Buck. Written in 1931, I read it when I was probably about 15. Reading it was a scary experience that the kind of things described in this book took place between two very different cultures. The story of a patriarch who discovered how he would protect his family in China from starvation, ( tho the matriarch was even more determined to save her family )and when life improved, how the family built back. Certainly a rags to riches story, and a culturally important experience which is possibly why I find following and understanding current news and events an important part of my day.
Lauren! I love the descriptions you have given here of all these books. I have read a couple of them, and am familiar with the rest. Diary of Anne Frank I read as a school assignment. I thot the movie was well-done, especially for people who are not necessarily readers. Such a sorrowful story, and enlightens the young from decades ago like myself, on how horrible the 2nd World War was with such blatant racial discrimination.

Ah! Phantom! Yes, of these stories, my favorite as well. Have only seen the movie, but should probably take ur advice, Lauren, n read the book.
I believe I read the Crucible in maybe high school. A depressing and frustrating story. …..tho might be mixing it up with The Scarlett Letter…..
I’m not much of a science fiction fan, but Jurassic Park is certainly an entertaining & exciting story, tho have not read the book.
Is the Jackie Robinson book a children’s book? A good story for sure!
